Breakfast cereal was pioneered by Dr. John Harvey Kellogg in the late 19th century. In 1894, he and his brother Will Kellogg accidentally created flaked cereal from boiled wheat. Seeking a nutritious yet easily digestible food for patients at the Battle Creek Sanitarium in Michigan, they refined the process, leading to the invention of the first cornflakes and the birth of the cereal industry.
