Item description

This product was created to address Common Core Standard L.4.5: Recognize and explain the meaning of common idioms, adages, and proverbs.

PROVERBS are wonderful fun for kids at all grade levels and often lead to great discussions. I teach my class three common English proverbs a day for ten consecutive school days. This material can be easily adapted for any grade between 4-8. This is a great warmup to start a language arts period lesson. Included are:
1) Teaching guidelines and tips (based on years of experience) for using the list effectively and making sure your students learn them well, as well as an explanation of the difference between idioms and proverbs.
2) The list of 30 very common and useful English proverbs along with complete and easy-to-use definitions.
3) A Mid-Course Review Quiz on the first fifteen proverbs (with answers) and the Final Exam (with answers) where students use context clues to fill in the blank in a sentence with one of the thirty proverbs.
