Item description

Frog in the Meadow is one of our favorite singing games. The 1st and 2nd grade music students love it because it’s fun, and I love it because I can use it to introduce sol mi or quarter rest. This folk song is a perfect singing game for Spring.

This is a Google Slides based lesson to teach the song Frog in the Meadow, the game, sol mi, or quarter rest. It includes a presentation for solfa and a separate presentation for rhythm. It also includes sheet music, an audio file of the song (intended to help the teacher, not for the kids), and printable rhythm and heartbeat charts.

The sol mi Google Slides presentation includes 56 slides to teach high and low or sol and mi. It includes a body solfege movement activity, an interactive section where students can put the frogs on the highs and lows, an introduction to the staff, introduction to sol and mi, sol mi patterns to read, and game directions.

The quarter rest Google Slides presentation includes 40 slides to teach quarter rest. It includes beat charts, an introduction to quarter rest, rhythm slides to practice with iconic notation and regular notation, and game directions.

To play the game:

  • The “frog” walks around the circle while students sing.

  • At the end, the “frog” stops.

  • The 2 closest people go in opposite directions around the circle.

  • The first person to get all the way around the circle and high five the “frog” is the new “frog”

This is a great lesson for any Kodaly inspired teacher in the spring time.

Everything is included in regular and stick notation.
