This is an author biography with assessment questions on Mark Twain, one of the greatest authors and humorists in American history. Born Samuel Clemens, he wrote beloved stories like “The Adventures of Tom Sawyer” and “Adventures of Huckleberry Finn.” Twain’s writing was known for humor and social commentary, making him a significant figure in American literature. This text was written for Grade 4-7 students and can be used in a number of ways by teachers (close reading, direct instruction in class, independent practice, homework, test prep, assessment, sub work, centers, etc). This “printable/no prep” resource includes:
1) An interesting and educational 1150-word passage titled “Mark Twain: Life on the Mississippi.” The passage is a biography of Samuel Clemens (Mark Twain) as well as a summary of some of his accomplishments in literature and storytelling.
2) A set of 30 questions, including vocabulary, sequencing, reading comprehension, and visual interpretation aligning with these Common Core Informational Text Standards: RI.4.1, RI.4.5, RI.5.4, and RI.5.7.
