Item description

This informational text tells the history of the development and use of the first atomic bomb in World War II. It works as a short history reading and assessment on the story of the atom bomb, but it can also be part of a larger study of the World War II or the Cold War. This passage is written for Grade 5-8 students and can be used in a number of ways by teachers (close reading, direct instruction in class, independent practice, homework, test prep, assessment, sub work, centers, etc). This “printable/no prep” resource includes:
1) An informative and accurate 900-word passage called “The Atomic Bomb.” The passage examines the events that occurred before, during, and after the development of the atomic bomb.
2) A total of 32 questions. These involve identifying author’s purpose,  sequencing events and actions, recognizing main ideas, and finding key details. The questions were written to align with Common Core Informational Standards RI.4.1, RI.4.3, RI.4.5, and RI.5.3
3) An additional crossword puzzle to give as an extra assignment or as an alternative form of assessment.
4) Answers to every question.
