Item description

What is a basic appliance found in almost every kitchen in the land? It’s the pop-up toaster, used almost every day and with over 18 million sold each year in the United States. But few people know the history of toasting bread and the development of the electric toaster. This student-friendly informational passage details the history of the toaster, beginning in the Middle Ages with forked utensils over hearth fires and continuing up to today. Special emphasis is placed on the legendary Toastmaster created by Jean Otis Reinecke in 1939. This Common Core-aligned text is teacher-friendly and written for use in Grades 5-8. It can be implemented in a number of ways by teachers (close reading, direct instruction in class, independent practice, absence work, homework, test prep, assessment, centers, etc).
The product includes:
1) An informative and engaging 1000-word informational passage called “The History of the Toaster”
2) A total of 25 questions, including vocabulary, comprehension, and written reflection, written to align with Common Core Standards RI.4.1, RI.4.5, L.4.5C, and RI.6.3
3) An additional crossword puzzle for early finishers or as an alternative form of assessment.
4) Answers to every question.
