This resource contains a mix n match vocabulary activity around Health and Safety words. These words have been taken from a typical health and safety policy. It is important that learners become familiar with this terminology so that they can comprehend workplace documentation and ensure that they meet their personal responsibilities under the Act.

This is suitable for students learning about the workplace and ESL learners in the workplace and classroom.

Instructions:

1. Print out the words and definitions. Cut them out and laminate (optional).

2. Put learners into pairs or groups and have them match up the words to the definitions.

3. Check back as a group to see if answers are correct. Adjust as necessary.

4. Learners then create sentences with the words. This can be completed in pairs or groups. Give them 5 minutes to create a sentence using a word that you select. These are then written on the whiteboard and the class discuss whether the sentences are correct. E.g. grammar, spelling, context. The pair / group with the longest and correct sentence wins. Write up another word and repeat. A score can be kept to see the final winning group.
